A short summary

Hey! Unfortunately we don't yet have a full-scale article on Shuai jiao. However, here is a short summary of what we know about it so far.

Shuai jiao

Shuai jiao (摔跤; 摔角 (Shuāijiāo)) is a traditional wrestling style, originating from China.
It allows grips on the opponent's garments, and allows grip fighting/changing grips during the match.

Techniques

Regarding Shuai jiao's arsenal of techniques, we know that leg techniques (hooks, sweeps, ect.) and leg grabs are allowed, and that pins, submission holds and striking are not utilized.

Objective

Modern rulesets vary, but generally the winner is determined by highest score at the end of the match; or an overwhelming lead on points. Points are scored by throwing the opponent.

Competition

The matches traditionally take place on a wrestling mat. The match duration is two or three 3 minute rounds (by modern rules).

There are established weight classes.
We don't know whether it is allowed for women to participate in Shuai jiao competitions.
