A short summary

Hey! Unfortunately we don't yet have a full-scale article on Ekigwo Ggumbya. However, here is a short summary of what we know about it so far.

Ekigwo Ggumbya

Ekigwo Ggumbya is a traditional wrestling style, originating from Uganda.
It doesn’t allow grips on the opponent's garments, and allows grip fighting/changing grips during the match.

Techniques

Regarding Ekigwo Ggumbya's arsenal of techniques, we know that leg techniques (hooks, sweeps, ect.) are allowed, and that pins, submission holds and striking are not utilized.

We don't yet have knowledge on whether leg grabs are trained or allowed in competition.

Objective

Make opponent touch the ground with any part of the body above the knee.

Competition

The matches traditionally take place on grass. We don't yet know what the usual match duration is.

We don't know if any weight classes are established. Neither, if women are allowed to participate in Ekigwo Ggumbya competitions or not.
