Ssireum

Ssireum (씨름) is a traditional wrestling style, originating from Korea.
It allows grips on the opponent's garments, and doesn’t allow grip fighting/changing grips during the match.
Only grips on the belt are allowed. Grips are set at the beginning of each round while both opponents are kneeling, facing each other (baro-japki position). During the round you can let go of the opponent's belt with only one hand at a time.

Techniques

Regarding Ssireum's arsenal of techniques, we know that leg techniques (hooks, sweeps, ect.) and leg grabs are allowed, and that pins, submission holds and striking are not utilized.

Objective

Matches consist of 3 rounds. Victory is obtained by making the opponent touch the ground with any part of the body above the knee. The person who is able to win 2 of the 3 rounds is the winner of the match. (Pushing your opponent outside of the ring does not warrant a win, just a restart.).

Competition

The matches traditionally take place on sand. The match duration is 3 rounds each of 1 minutes, with 1 minute breaks in between; for pro championship final - 5 rounds. In case of tie - an additional 30 second round..

There are established weight classes.
Weight classes were added in 1967.

Women are not allowed to participate in Ssireum competitions.
Today there are also women Ssireum wrestlers. Women wrestle only among themselves but follow the same rules. (Wikipedia)
