A short summary

Hey! Unfortunately we don't yet have a full-scale article on Koshti pahlavani. However, here is a short summary of what we know about it so far.

Koshti pahlavani

Koshti pahlavani (کشتی) is a traditional wrestling style, originating from Iran.
It allows grips on the opponent's garments, and allows grip fighting/changing grips during the match.

Techniques

Regarding Koshti pahlavani's arsenal of techniques, we know that leg techniques (hooks, sweeps, ect.), leg grabs and pins are allowed, and that striking are not utilized.

We don't yet have knowledge on whether submission holds are trained or allowed in competition.

Objective

Pin the opponent's back to the ground (for a certain time).

Competition

The matches traditionally take place on a wrestling mat. The match duration is two 3 minute rounds (by modern rules).

There are no established weight classes - you could end up wrestling someone who is twice your size!
Women are not allowed to participate in Koshti pahlavani competitions.
