A short summary

Hey! Unfortunately we don't yet have a full-scale article on Lucha gallega. However, here is a short summary of what we know about it so far.

Lucha gallega

Lucha gallega (Loita galega) is a traditional wrestling style, originating from Province of Galicia, Spain.
It allows grips on the opponent's garments, and allows grip fighting/changing grips during the match.
Grips on the belt and pants are allowed.

Techniques

Regarding Lucha gallega's arsenal of techniques, we know that leg techniques (hooks, sweeps, ect.), leg grabs and pins are allowed, and that striking are not utilized.

We don't yet have knowledge on whether submission holds are trained or allowed in competition.

Objective

Pin the opponent's back to the ground for 15 seconds, or throw him on his back, or win on points. Points are scored for throwing the opponent, or pushing him out of bounds.

Competition

The matches traditionally take place on hay/straw; sand (in coastal areas). We don't yet know what the usual match duration is.

We don't know if any weight classes are established.
Women are allowed to participate in Lucha gallega competitions as well.
