A short summary

Hey! Unfortunately we don't yet have a full-scale article on Galhofa. However, here is a short summary of what we know about it so far.

Galhofa

Galhofa is a traditional wrestling style, originating from Portugal.
It doesn’t allow grips on the opponent's garments, and allows grip fighting/changing grips during the match.
Only grips on the pants are allowed. No shirt/ jacket is worn.

Techniques

Regarding Galhofa's arsenal of techniques, we know that leg techniques (hooks, sweeps, ect.), leg grabs and pins are allowed, and that submission holds and striking are not utilized.

Objective

Pin the opponent's back to the ground (for a certain time).

Competition

The matches traditionally take place on hay/straw. We don't yet know what the usual match duration is.

We don't know if any weight classes are established.
Women are not allowed to participate in Galhofa competitions.
