A short summary

Hey! Unfortunately we don't yet have a full-scale article on Kokawa. However, here is a short summary of what we know about it so far.

Kokawa

Kokawa is a traditional wrestling style, originating from Hausa settlements, Nigeria.
It doesn’t allow grips on the opponent's garments, and allows grip fighting/changing grips during the match.

Techniques

Regarding Kokawa's arsenal of techniques, we know that leg grabs are allowed, and that pins are not utilized.

We don't yet have knowledge on whether leg techniques (hooks, sweeps, ect.), submission holds and striking are trained or allowed in competition.

Objective

Throw the opponent to the ground or make him post with his hands on the ground to keep balance.

Competition

The matches traditionally take place on dirt or sand. We don't yet know what the usual match duration is.

We don't know if any weight classes are established. Neither, if women are allowed to participate in Kokawa competitions or not.
