A short summary

Hey! Unfortunately we don't yet have a full-scale article on Igba Mgba. However, here is a short summary of what we know about it so far.

Igba Mgba

Igba Mgba is a traditional wrestling style, originating from Nigeria.
It allows grips on the opponent's garments, and allows grip fighting/changing grips during the match.
Only grips on the pants are allowed. No shirt/ jacket is worn.

Techniques

Regarding Igba Mgba's arsenal of techniques, we know that leg techniques (hooks, sweeps, ect.), leg grabs and pins are allowed, and that submission holds are not utilized.

We don't yet have knowledge on whether any form of striking techniques are trained or allowed in competition.

Objective

Make the opponent's back touch the ground.

Competition

The matches traditionally take place on dirt or sand. We don't yet know what the usual match duration is.

We don't know if any weight classes are established. Neither, if women are allowed to participate in Igba Mgba competitions or not.
